Built in the year 1673, the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple (aka Temple of Green Cloud) is the oldest Chinese temple in Malaysia practicing Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, (Three Doctrinal Systems) in Melaka, the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple has everything to keep you engaged, i.e. from ornate roofs to carved and painted murals of Guan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy. These murals have been recovered with old techniques.
The Cheng Hoon Teng temple in Malaysia is located in the proximity to Harmony Street “Jalan Tukang Emas” in the vicinity to Sri Poyatha Moorthi Temple and Kampung Kling Mosque, stretched over 4600 sq. m. Featuring the ornate main gate, the temple has several prayer halls in the complex with main and large hall devoted to Guan Yin. Later on, other smaller quarters were added. One of these is devoted to Buddhist gods of longevity, wealth, and propagation, while other having ancestral tablets.
The 7m long red flag pole is one of the main attractions. It is placed in front of main hall with the ruins of 3 Kapitans who played a vital role in construction of this complex. The building follows feng shui principles where complex is laid well with panoramic view of river.
